A devastating fire swept through multiple shops at ‘Blue Light’ in Adum, the Central Business Centre of Kumasi, in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2025.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire, which started before dawn, spread rapidly, consuming goods worth thousands of cedis. Some desperate shop owners ignored safety warnings from the police and firefighters, attempting to salvage their merchandise. One individual had to be forcibly evacuated, with a ladder used to bring him to safety.
A frustrated shop owner expressed disappointment in the firefighting efforts, stating, “The firefighters have not done enough to kill this fire.”
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but reports suggest that an explosion was heard from some of the burning shops, hinting at possible flammable materials stored in the area.
Firefighters and police officers are still working to fully contain the situation and prevent further damage. Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the incident once the fire is completely extinguished.
