A catastrophic fire ravaged a two-storey hostel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Thursday night, leaving students in shock and despair.
The blaze completely consumed the second floor of the nine-bedroom apartment, displacing the affected students and destroying their personal belongings. Unfortunately, they had no chance to save any of their possessions.
Despite the severity of the fire, no casualties were reported.
DO3 Peter Addai, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Fire Service, informed Citi News about the firefighting efforts. He also mentioned that investigations are underway to determine the fire’s cause.
Addai noted that eleven rooms remained unaffected by the fire and are currently safe for occupancy.
In response to the crisis, the Students Representative Council (SRC) of KNUST has provided temporary accommodation for the displaced students at the SRC hostel. The council also stresses the importance of following safety protocols to prevent future incidents.
