FIFA has announced the introduction of lower-priced World Cup tickets following intense criticism from football fans and supporter groups over the cost of attending matches at the 2026 tournament.
The global football governing body revealed that 10 percent of each Participant Member Association (PMA) ticket allocation for every match, including the final in New Jersey, will now be sold at a fixed price of $60. The decision comes after fans discovered that the cheapest tickets for the final were priced at more than $4,000 during the latest sales phase.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, December 17, 2025, after meetings between FIFA officials and national football federations in Doha, where concerns were raised about affordability and access for loyal supporters. The FIFA Council is expected to further deliberate on related matters at its meeting in Qatar.
Supporter organisations had strongly condemned FIFA’s earlier pricing structure. Football Supporters Europe (FSE) described it as a monumental betrayal and called for an immediate halt to the PMA ticket sales process. The PMA allocation accounts for about 8 percent of stadium capacity per country for each match.
A FIFA official involved in the discussions said demand for tickets had been extremely high, with more than 20 million requests recorded in the latest phase. According to the official, the new $60 ticket category was introduced after FIFA listened to feedback from fans and member associations.
FSE, together with its Disability and Inclusion Fan Network, had also criticised FIFA for a system that they said excluded disabled fans from accessing the cheapest tickets and departed sharply from established ticketing practices.
The introduction of the $60 tickets is expected to ease tensions with supporters and improve accessibility for dedicated fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
