A fetish priestess residing in the Sichaasa community in Wiaga, located within the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region, has been hospitalized following an alleged assault by two pastors associated with the Jesus Family Church in Sandema. The incident occurred when the priestess, identified as Issahaku Sakinatu, declined the pastors’ attempts to persuade her to abandon her faith and embrace Christianity.
Sakinatu, subjected to a severe beating in her own home, sustained significant injuries, including facial bruises, knee injuries, and a dislocated left arm. She is currently receiving medical treatment at the Wiaga Clinic.
According to Sakinatu’s account of the incident, the unwelcome visitors, led by one Pastor Donatus Asekapta, arrived at her residence under the pretense of offering prayers for her. However, when she rejected their proposition, they grew agitated and attempted to confiscate her religious artifacts and deities, a proposition she vehemently resisted.
She recounted that her steadfast refusal to comply with their demands angered the pastors, resulting in verbal abuse. Furthermore, during the altercation, a white pastor among them brandished a firearm and issued death threats against her.
Sakinatu explained, “They took some of my idols and hid them, and when I retrieved them, one of the pastors, who is a white man, held me and pushed me onto the ground. I quickly got back up, and that was when the white man took out a pistol and threatened to kill me.”
She continued, “After that, the pastor from the Awolinka church beat me up mercilessly. He twisted my arm, and as I speak, there are pains all over. I also sustained cuts on my face, knees, and hands.”
Following the attack, the incident was reported to the police in Sandema, leading to the arrest of the suspects. The victim was also provided with a medical form to seek medical attention.
Sakinatu, traumatized by the incident, asserted that her rights were violated and appealed to the police to ensure that justice is served. She stated, “I was at my home, and they came and attacked me. I didn’t do anything wrong. So, I want the police to handle the case well and punish them for the severe beatings and other inhumane treatment they made me go through in my own house.”
