Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, owned by Meta, are currently experiencing a widespread outage, with users around the world reporting issues accessing the platforms.
Users attempting to log onto the websites and apps are encountering error messages and are unable to refresh their feeds. Downdetector, a website that tracks internet outages, has received over 300,000 reports of Facebook outages and more than 20,000 reports of Instagram outages.
The outage appears to be affecting multiple countries, though the exact extent is not yet clear. Meta has been approached for comment, but its own status page indicates that the products are working as expected.
This outage comes at a time when Meta is facing increasing scrutiny over its platforms’ impact on society, privacy concerns, and competition issues.
