A deadly road accident has claimed the lives of eight individuals in New Ayaase, located in the Adansi-Fomena District of the Ashanti Region.
The crash, which occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 22, involved a Sprinter van, a long-distance VIP bus, and a Toyota Corolla. Reports indicate that the Sprinter, en route from Kumasi to Fosu, attempted an ill-advised overtaking maneuver of the Toyota Corolla, which was heading towards Fomena.
During the risky move, the Sprinter crashed head-on into a long bus coming from Kumasi. The impact caused the Toyota Corolla to swerve off the road uncontrollably.
According to Isaac Adjei, Assembly Member for the Fomena East Electoral Area, the collision was so violent that the Sprinter van split into two, with part of the vehicle somersaulting off the road. Six individuals lost their lives instantly, while two more died after being rushed to the hospital.
Mr. Adjei called for the installation of speed ramps in the area to deter reckless driving and reduce the occurrence of such devastating incidents in the future.
