The Ministry of Education has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate a viral video showing some senior high school students allegedly displaying charms for spiritual fortification.

The video, which has sparked public concern, reportedly features male students from Islamic Senior High School and Sakafia Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi openly brandishing charms, with some items concealed under their uniforms and others displayed openly.

Reacting to the development, the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, described the footage as disturbing and raised concerns about student discipline, safety, and the increasing incidents of violence and indiscipline in senior high schools.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Dr. Apaak revealed that he had referred the matter to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service for immediate action.

He stressed that government will not tolerate violence or acts of indiscipline within educational institutions, particularly conflicts involving students from different schools.

According to him, decisive steps are being taken to restore discipline across the country’s schools and ensure a safe learning environment for students.

Dr. Apaak also urged parents to take greater responsibility for monitoring and guiding the behaviour of their children while in school, noting that parental involvement is critical in addressing misconduct among students.

He further highlighted the reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations as a deliberate policy move to strengthen collaboration between schools and parents, especially at the pre-tertiary level.

The Ghana Education Service is expected to carry out investigations into the incident and take appropriate disciplinary measures based on its findings.
