The Ministry of Education has announced the delivery of more than 3,000 mono desks to Labone Senior High School in Accra on Monday, November 24, following reports that newly admitted Form One students were compelled to sit on the floor and on dining hall benches due to a severe furniture shortage.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry said Labone SHS officially requested 3,282 mono desks through the Ghana Education Service (GES). The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) subsequently approved and allocated the full amount, with delivery expected to be completed by the end of the day.
The provision forms part of the Ministry’s broader programme to supply 200,000 mono desks to 100 senior high schools transitioning from the double-track to the single-track system. The initiative aims to close the furniture gap gradually and sustainably across all second-cycle institutions.
The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every student learns in a safe and supportive environment. It emphasised ongoing collaboration with GES, GETFund, and other partners to strengthen infrastructure and improve teaching and learning nationwide.
