The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has urged Ghanaians to remain patient as the government works to resolve power supply disruptions caused by financial constraints and gas supply challenges.
Speaking during a working visit to the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) Station in Tema, Jinapor acknowledged that Ghana currently lacks spare capacity, making the situation more challenging.
The government is working to clear an outstanding $75 million debt owed to N-Gas Limited, which has threatened to suspend gas supply to Ghana due to unpaid arrears from 2024 to the present.
Jinapor revealed that President John Dramani Mahama has met with Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to discuss mobilizing funds for a down payment while negotiating a payment schedule with N-Gas.
The Minister assured the public that the government is doing everything possible to minimize the impact of power cuts. He commended GRIDCo and other power producers for their efforts and urged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to remain on standby.
“No matter the challenge, I’m sure we will be able to find a solution,” Jinapor assured, emphasizing ongoing negotiations with Nigerian suppliers to restore stability in Ghana’s power sector.
