The Chief of Dompoase in the Adansi Traditional Area, Nana Okofo Kwabena Bonsu II, has been hospitalized after being struck by a stray bullet during a funeral ceremony in Obuasi, Ashanti Region. The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday while traditional rulers and dignitaries gathered to partake in the funeral rites of the late mother of the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs. Faustilove Appiah Kannin.
According to eyewitness accounts, the Chief and his delegation were exchanging pleasantries with the Omanhene of Asebu Kwamankese and other traditional leaders when the incident happened. A subject of the Omanhene accidentally discharged his musket, and the stray bullet hit Nana Okofo Kwabena Bonsu II.
The injured Chief was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he is reportedly responding to treatment. Meanwhile, the individual responsible for the accidental discharge has been arrested and is currently assisting the police with investigations.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about safety measures during traditional musket-firing activities at public events. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations progress.
