The Accra High Court has dismissed an application by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, seeking to lift a freezing order placed on the bank account of Paradise Insurance.
The court refused the request to overturn the Financial Intelligence Centre’s (FIC) directive freezing the account and subsequently adjourned the case sine die.
In April 2025, the FIC froze all bank accounts linked to Chairman Wontumi and Akonta Mining as part of investigations into alleged financial irregularities. The action was taken under Section 56(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044), which allows the FIC to restrict access to accounts suspected to be linked to illicit financial activity.
The freezing order is connected to ongoing criminal proceedings against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP over alleged breaches of Ghana’s mining laws.
