A 20-year-old Community Police Assistant (CPA), Bismark Yeboah, has been arrested by the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command in connection with the violent assault of a patient at the Akoti Health Centre in Assin Wurakese, within the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.

According to the police, Yeboah was part of an angry mob that stormed the health facility and attacked a patient who had sustained deep cutlass wounds and had reportedly passed out. His arrest followed a review of video footage captured during the incident, which circulated widely and sparked public outrage.

The victim, identified as Kenneth Yaw Buabeng, has also been detained by the police to assist with ongoing investigations after being discharged from the hospital. Although Buabeng suffered severe cutlass injuries, police have described him as the initial aggressor, alleging that he attacked the family of one Daniel, who also sustained serious cutlass wounds during the confrontation.

ACP Dr. Asare Nyarko disclosed that police patrols in the area have been intensified to ensure residents and health workers can carry out their duties without fear or intimidation. Meanwhile, the Central North Regional Police Commander, ACP Abraham Acquaye, condemned the attack on the patient within the health facility and assured the public that psychological support would be provided to nurses and staff affected by the incident. He added that additional security measures would be installed at sensitive locations across the region to prevent similar occurrences.

Health personnel at the Akoti Health Centre expressed satisfaction with the engagement and reassured authorities of their commitment to continue providing uninterrupted healthcare services to the community. A police officer has since been stationed at the facility to enhance security and protect both staff and patients.
