A five-member committee chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang is set to begin hearings today, Thursday, May 15, 2025, into multiple petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

The committee was established by President John Dramani Mahama in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution after he received five separate petitions accusing the Chief Justice of alleged misconduct.

Justice Torkornoo, currently under suspension, will face detailed investigations into the allegations, which prompted the President to act following constitutional consultation with the Council of State.

The committee’s formation followed a prima facie determination of the allegations and is mandated to meet three times weekly. Upon completing its inquiry, the panel is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the President for further action.
