CitiTV Journalist Akosua Otchere Attacked During Coverage of NDC Candidate Vetting  in Odododiodio Constituency, Accra

In an unfortunate incident that unfolded on October 13, 2023, Akosua Otchere, a dedicated journalist from Citi TV and Citi FM, found herself under attack while reporting on the vetting process of prospective parliamentary candidates within the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The incident transpired in the Odododiodio constituency of Accra.

During the event, Ms. Otchere was subjected to an assault by a group of individuals affiliated with the NDC, who forcefully twisted her hand and seized her mobile phone. The chaos erupted following the destruction of party property, including chairs and an air conditioner, as well as the hurling of stones at the vetting committee. The agitated members of one of the candidate’s camps cited perceived unfairness as the catalyst for their actions.

This tumultuous scene played out at the NDC’s Greater Accra Regional office in South La, where three individuals, namely Nii Okai Laryea, Kotey Ashie, and Michael Nii Yarboi Annang, were appearing before the committee with the aspiration of succeeding the incumbent MP, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, who had decided not to seek re-election.

It’s important to note that the Odododiodio Constituency had been unable to partake in the vetting process in February 2023 due to unresolved issues that needed the party’s attention. Consequently, this Friday’s vetting session was poised to determine the fate of the three aspirants vying for the party’s parliamentary primary, scheduled for Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
