Former Member of Parliament for Tema West and former Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, says changing political circumstances influenced her decision to switch support in the New Patriotic Party’s 2026 flagbearership race.

Naa Torshie Addo, who backed former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the NPP’s previous presidential primary, has now thrown her support behind Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Speaking to Citi News after voting, the former MP explained that political choices are not fixed and must be reviewed in line with evolving realities within the party and the national political landscape.

She noted that every election cycle presents different dynamics, making it necessary for party members to reassess candidates based on current conditions and future electoral prospects.

“The elections are different. Election 2024 is different from Election 2028, so you don’t have to vote for the same person. Circumstances may change, personalities may change, and the way the party in power behaves would advise you on which candidate can fight for 2028. I took all of that into consideration and chose Ken,” she stated.

According to her, the decision was taken in the broader interest of the party as it positions itself for the 2028 general elections.
