Car Thief Sentenced to Five Years Imprisonment

The Gbetsile Circuit Court has handed down a five-year imprisonment sentence to 23-year-old Courage Akadro for the theft of a Toyota Camry. The court, under the leadership of Ms. Eleanor Kakra Banes Botchway, delivered the sentence after Akadro pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft.

Akadro received a three-year hard labor sentence for the first charge and a five-year hard labor sentence for the second charge, with both sentences set to run concurrently.

Prosecuting Inspector Maxwell Ayeh informed the court that the complainant, Madam Millicent Kwetey Maku, who resides in Mataheko-Afienya, had driven her black Toyota Camry to Mataheko second on May 19, 2024, around 10:00 AM. She parked the car with the engine running near the Mataheko second bridge while she went to buy items from a nearby shop.

Taking advantage of the situation, Akadro unlawfully entered the car and drove it towards Afienya. However, the complainant quickly raised an alarm and, with the help of some commercial motorbike riders, pursued him. During the chase, Akadro lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a red Toyota Corolla, causing the car’s engine to stall. He was then apprehended and handed over to the Afienya Police along with the stolen vehicle.

Following an investigation, Akadro was charged and brought before the court, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
