British High Commission Donates to Ghana Armed Forces, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

In a display of strong bilateral cooperation, the UK government has generously donated eight ambulances to the Ghana Armed Forces, aimed at bolstering medical outreach and enhancing security partnerships in the Northern border regions.

At the official handover ceremony held on Thursday, December 8, 2023, at Burma Camp in Accra, key dignitaries including UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Rt. Hon. James Heappey, and Ghana Armed Forces’ Chief of the Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, underscored the significance of the collaborative effort in fortifying peace and security.

The ambulances, equipped with advanced technology, are designated to aid the Ghana Armed Forces’ medical operations across the five Northern regions, reinforcing the UK-Ghana Civilian Military Cooperation Programme. This partnership reflects a concerted effort to combat violent extremism and underscores the joint commitment to civilian cooperation in the Northern regions.

Rt. Hon. James Heappey expressed pride in the UK’s collaboration with Ghana, emphasizing their collective efforts in tackling shared challenges, from countering violent extremism to enhancing maritime security. He highlighted the donation as a testament to the enduring partnership between the two nations and its role in supporting Ghana Armed Forces’ capabilities in safeguarding civilians against extremist threats.

Vice Admiral Seth Amoama conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the UK government for the significant donation, affirming its timely arrival as Ghana gears up for counter-terrorism operations in collaboration with regional partners. He emphasized the critical role these ambulances would play in facilitating medical evacuation plans for deployed troops.
