A Circuit Court in Bekwai in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a young man, Michael Antwi Boasiako, to 20 years’ imprisonment for his involvement in a violent robbery attack on a tricycle rider near Wawase.
The conviction followed a successful prosecution by the Bekwai Police, which secured the sentence on January 12, 2026, after the court found Antwi Boasiako guilty of robbing and assaulting a pragya rider.
The incident occurred on August 14, 2025, when Antwi Boasiako and an accomplice, who is currently on the run, hired the complainant, Godfred Tabi, to transport them to Wawase under the pretext of visiting a cottage.
During the journey, the two men attacked the rider, tied his hands and legs, and fastened him to a cocoa tree before escaping with his pragya tricycle.
The victim later managed to free himself and sought assistance from a nearby cottage. He subsequently contacted his elder brother, who mobilised people to help rescue him.
While the group was on their way, they spotted the stolen tricycle being ridden by unknown persons and attempted to arrest them. One suspect escaped, while the other was apprehended and later handed over to the police.
Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Nyaaba, said investigations led to the prosecution of the suspect, who was convicted on two counts and sentenced to 20 years in prison, with the sentences to run concurrently.
