
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has donated GH¢100,000 to assist with the medical treatment of victims injured in the tragic stampede that occurred during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
The unfortunate incident, which took place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, claimed six lives and left about 28 others injured after thousands of job seekers gathered at the venue for the enlistment screening.
Mr. Bagbin, accompanied by parliamentary leadership, visited the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday to console the injured victims and their families. He said the donation was meant to help ease their financial burden and show Parliament’s solidarity with those affected.
The Speaker also voiced serious concerns about the persistent problems surrounding public recruitment exercises in Ghana. He called for urgent reforms to ensure such processes are conducted in a safer and more organized manner.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has suspended the ongoing recruitment exercise at El-Wak pending investigations into the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
