The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has denied claims that he incited a mob to attack the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) team and obstructed their duties at Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region.
In a press release dated November 3, 2025, the MP explained that the incident occurred while he was en route to a funeral in the Asutifi South Constituency. He said he had contacted Hon. Collins Dauda, the MP for Asutifi South, who was out of the country at the time, to represent him in addressing the situation after hearing about rising tensions in Hwidiem.
Hon. Addo recounted that upon arriving at the scene, he noticed unrest among some youth and was informed that a military operation was ongoing at a gold extraction site. He claimed that his only advice to the crowd was to proceed to the police station to make an official statement and hand over the arrested individuals and items to law enforcement to calm the situation.
He stated that he worked alongside the police, military, and the Zongo Chief of Hwidiem to restore order. The MP further explained that after the incident, the Zongo Chief’s vehicle, which had been used to transport military officers, was vandalized while he had already departed to attend other funerals.
Hon. Addo emphasized that he never incited the youth against security officials or government operations, describing the allegations as false and damaging to his reputation. He urged the public to disregard such claims, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining peace and supporting all security agencies to uphold law and order in the constituency.
