The Deputy Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asunafo South, Eric Agyemang, has publicly announced his decision to defect from the Kennedy Agyapong campaign camp to support Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Agyemang, who also served as the former Campaign Secretary for Kennedy Agyapong in the area, made the announcement during a gathering of party supporters in Asunafo South.
In his address, he expressed regret for spreading false claims about Dr. Bawumia during the party’s internal campaign period, admitting that his previous comments were made based on misinformation.
“I came to all of you to campaign for Kennedy Agyapong in the past, but I have come to realise that the things we said about Dr. Bawumia were lies and falsehood,” Agyemang stated.
He further appealed to his colleagues and supporters of the NPP to unite behind Dr. Bawumia as the party prepares for the upcoming general elections.
“I regret it deeply and I am withdrawing everything I told you about him. Let us all come together and support Dr. Bawumia,” he added.
The development has been welcomed by local party leaders, who see it as a positive step toward strengthening unity within the NPP in the Asunafo South constituency ahead of the 2026 elections.
