Assembly Members Urged to Embrace Sacrificial Service

During the recent inauguration ceremony of the Wa Municipal Assembly, Mr. Tahiru Issahaku Moomin, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), emphasized the sacrificial nature of the assembly members’ role, urging them to view their service as a dedication to community, municipality, and national development.

Moomin encouraged the assembly members to engage in decision-making processes and governance at the local government level with dedication, aiming for the genuine appreciation of their constituents.

He underscored the notion that the role demanded sacrifices and called upon the newly elected assembly members to work diligently for the betterment of their constituents and the municipality as a whole.

The Wa Municipal Assembly, comprising 45 members – 31 elected and 14 appointed, convened for the swearing-in ceremony overseen by Justice Abdul Yusif Assibey, the Supervising High Court Judge, Wa, in the presence of traditional leaders, heads of departments, and agencies.

Moomin outlined the assembly’s vision for an “International standard Municipality,” prioritizing modernization and sustainable development.

He emphasized the need to combat poverty and illiteracy, urging members to set aside any disagreements from the District Level Elections and focus on municipal development.

Acknowledging past achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and environmental sustainability, Moomin stressed the ongoing challenges and the necessity for continued dedication to duty.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister, emphasized the significance of the inauguration in advancing decentralized governance, in line with the country’s constitution.

He called for continuous capacity-building efforts for assembly members to effectively fulfill their duties and responsibilities mandated by law, emphasizing the role of institutions like the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS)0⁰0 in this endeavor.
