The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will in the coming days present the final report on the Bawku chieftaincy mediation to President John Mahama. This follows the conclusion of a major dialogue session on Monday at the Manhyia Palace involving the Kusaasi and Mamprusi factions.
The meeting ended positively, with both sides expressing relief and renewed hope for lasting peace—sparking moments of jubilation within the palace. Observers say the session marks a significant step toward resolving the long-standing Bawku disturbances.
However, tensions briefly flared outside when a jubilant Mamprusi supporter allegedly hit a vehicle belonging to the opposing faction. Security officers intervened quickly and restored calm.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, known for his deep experience in national conflict resolution, was appointed by President Mahama to lead the peace process.
Government is expected to issue further directives after reviewing the Asantehene’s official report.
