Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to deliver the final ruling in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy mediation today, Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace.
President John Dramani Mahama appointed the Asantehene earlier this year to lead the search for a lasting solution to the decades-old conflict, which has repeatedly destabilised the Bawku municipality.
The mediation process began in April, when the Asantehene met representatives of the rival factions between April 28 and 30 to reopen dialogue and lay the groundwork for renewed engagement. Although talks were briefly halted, they resumed on May 13, during which Otumfuo emphasised that the consultations had contributed to a period of relative calm in Bawku.
For years, Bawku has been marked by recurring violence, sporadic attacks, curfews and persistent insecurity, resulting in loss of lives and severe social and economic disruptions. The conflict has strained community relations and drawn national attention to the urgent need for peace.
According to the Manhyia Palace, today’s meeting represents the final phase of comprehensive peace-building efforts. Many residents and observers are hopeful that the ruling will finally break the cycle of violence and pave the way for stability, reconciliation and development in the conflict-affected enclave.
