The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has set Sunday, November 30, and Monday, December 1, 2025, as the final dates for his mediation in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
In a statement released by the Manhyia Palace on Monday, November 10, it was noted that the two-day session will represent a crucial step in the Asantehene’s ongoing efforts to foster lasting peace between the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions.
The statement commended both groups for their cooperation throughout the mediation process and encouraged them to maintain calm as discussions approach their conclusion.
“His Majesty praises both sides for their positive approach to the mediation so far and appeals to all concerned to avoid any actions likely to affect the progress towards a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict,” the Manhyia Palace said.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II first began mediating the conflict in April 2025, when he met representatives of both factions from April 28 to 30 to initiate peace talks. The dialogue, which was briefly suspended, resumed on May 13 and has since contributed to a relative calm in the Bawku area.
The Bawku municipality has experienced recurring violence and tensions in recent months, with sporadic attacks causing casualties and prompting curfews imposed by security authorities. The unrest has disrupted livelihoods, strained community relations, and heightened national calls for peace.
By fixing the final mediation date, the Asantehene reaffirms his determination to bring both sides to a lasting agreement and restore stability to the troubled region. His leadership in the peace process has earned widespread praise from traditional leaders, government officials, and civil society for demonstrating unity, wisdom, and dedication to national harmony.
