Armed Robbers Attack Jeffisi Market

In a distressing incident at Jeffisi market, located in the Sissala West District, a group of six masked gunmen reportedly created chaos by firing warning shots and robbing several traders. The unsettling event, which took place on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, resulted in the theft of an undisclosed sum of money and approximately 70 Android mobile phones from a trader named Mr. Mohammed Bayugo.

The victim, Mr. Mohammed Bayugo, deeply affected by the incident, found himself unable to continue his regular mobile money transactions, causing considerable inconvenience for numerous individuals reliant on such services within the Jeffisi community.

Eyewitness Mr. Sule Bayugo recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “Around 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, I witnessed masked individuals carrying firearms shooting randomly in the air as I arrived at a store near Jeffisi market. This triggered a panicked exodus, with traders and bystanders fleeing for safety. Subsequently, a formal complaint was lodged with the authorities, prompting a swift response from the police.”

Chief Alhaji Kuoro Penkul, voicing concern over the escalating armed assaults on the community, urged law enforcement agencies to bolster security measures in the area to combat the growing threat.

Confirming the incident, ACP Victor Akakpo, the Sissala West District Police Commander, revealed that the police received a report and promptly dispatched the Zini Police Patrol team, in collaboration with the Gwollu team, to pursue the robbers. Regrettably, their pursuit towards Tumu proved futile as the suspects evaded capture.

ACP Akakpo assured the public that an investigation into the robbery had been initiated, addressing the recent surge in armed attacks on the local populace, emphasizing the necessity for heightened security protocols in the region.
