In a disturbing incident near Dansoman Roundabout, Accra, some residents attacked fire service personnel after they arrived at the scene of a fire without the necessary equipment to extinguish the blaze.
The fire had engulfed a residential building, and the officers’ inability to control the situation infuriated the residents. A video shared on social media captured moments when some residents physically assaulted the fire officers out of frustration.
This incident is part of an increasing trend of tension between Ghanaian communities and emergency responders. In 2023, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had warned that it might blacklist communities that engage in hostile behavior towards its personnel.
This warning followed a similar situation at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where angry individuals threw stones at fire tenders due to dissatisfaction with the fire service’s delayed response.
