Anas Slapped with GH¢30k Cost as Court of Appeal Dismisses His Appeal Over 2-Acre Land at Tse-Addo

The Court of Appeal, by a 2-1 majority decision, has dismissed an appeal filed by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, seeking to overturn a High Court judgment that declared Adolph Tetteh Adjei the rightful owner of a disputed 2-acre parcel of land at Tse Addo.

Presided over by Justice Senyo Dzamefe, the three-member panel upheld the High Court’s decision in favor of Adolph Tetteh Adjei. Justice Dzamefe dissented in the decision made on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

The case, titled “Adolph Tetteh Adjei v Anas Aremeyaw Anas & Holy Quaye Suit No. LD/0256/2017,” has now twice ruled in favor of Adjei against Anas. Adjei initiated the land dispute in 2017, claiming that he rightfully acquired the 2-acre parcel from grantors who traced their interest to the East Dadekotopon Development Trust (EDDT). Anas contested these claims in his defense.

In 2023, the High Court declared Adjei the owner of the land and ordered Anas to pay GH¢60,000 for trespassing. Additionally, Anas was directed to pay GH¢40,000 in legal costs.

Dissatisfied with the High Court’s judgment, Anas and his legal team appealed the decision. However, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal and imposed a GH¢30,000 cost against Anas.
