Akufo-Addo to Deliver Final State of the Nation Address Today

Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deliver his last State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, January 3, 2025. The address will take place at Parliament House ahead of the dissolution of the 8th Parliament.

In his final address, President Akufo-Addo is expected to provide a comprehensive update on Ghana’s state, covering various sectors of the economy and governance. This marks his last major engagement as President before handing over office to President-elect John Mahama.

The 8th Parliament is set to be dissolved on Monday night, January 6, 2025. On the same day, the 9th Parliament will be inaugurated, ensuring a seamless transition of power.

The inauguration ceremony will include the election of a new Speaker of Parliament and two deputies, who will be sworn in at midnight. This process is crucial for the new government, under John Mahama, to begin its duties without delay.
