The Office of the Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has firmly denied reports suggesting that he is seeking the intervention of President John Dramani Mahama to secure assurances for the return of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
In a rejoinder dated December 16, 2025, the Office described the publication, first reported by the Herald newspaper and subsequently circulated by other media outlets, as “utterly false” and a “total fabrication.”
The statement refuted claims that the former President was considering approaching President Mahama to seek safe passage or assurances for Ofori-Atta’s return to Ghana. According to the Office, Nana Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated nor made any express or implied request or representation to President Mahama, his agents, or assigns regarding the matter.
The Office further emphasized that the former President’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law has never been in doubt, stating that he does not intend to interfere with legal processes in any form.
While acknowledging that the fate of Ken Ofori-Atta is of concern to the former President, the statement clarified that such concern stems from personal and professional associations, noting that Ofori-Atta is both his cousin and a former Finance Minister who served under his administration. However, it stressed that this concern does not extend to any attempt to undermine or influence the rule of law.
The Office expressed hope that the rejoinder would set the record straight on the matter and demanded that the media houses responsible for the erroneous publication reproduce the rejoinder in accordance with the former President’s rights.
