The Member of Parliament for the Ahafo Ano Southwest Constituency, Elvis Osei Mensah-Dapaah, has pledged to renovate the science laboratory of Mankranso Senior High School following the school’s inspiring performance in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews during his visit to the University of Cape Coast, where Mankranso SHS competed in the semifinal contest against Mfantsipim School and Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), the MP commended the school’s determination despite limited resources.

According to him, the school’s remarkable achievement, despite its poor infrastructure, has motivated him to speed up development projects at the institution.
“Though I’m an opposition Member of Parliament, you know how tedious it is,” Mr. Mensah-Dapaah said. “Looking at the infrastructure development that took place under my predecessor’s regime, I have decided to continue those projects — including dormitories and classrooms.”
He disclosed that he had personally visited Mankranso SHS and observed the poor state of its facilities, particularly the science laboratory.
“I’ve been to the school myself. They have the structure for a science laboratory, but looking at the condition, things are not well. So what I’m trying to do now is to start with the lab. There’s nothing inside the structure,” he explained.
The MP added that he intends to support the school with both government funding and personal resources to help transform its infrastructure.
“What they have done has boosted me to do a lot,” he said. “I won’t rely on government coffers alone. There are certain aspects of it that I’ll use my own money to support the school because they’ve given us a good name.”
Mr. Mensah-Dapaah praised the students and teachers of Mankranso SHS for making their community proud through their outstanding performance and promised continued support to sustain their progress.
“Mankranso SHS has made us proud, and I can assure you, today we are going to beat Mfantsipim and GSTS,” he said confidently.
Mankranso SHS, a Category C school in the Ahafo Ano Southwest District, has become one of the standout stories of NSMQ 2025, capturing national attention for its journey from limited resources and poor infrastructure to competing on a national stage.
The school’s NSMQ coordinator, Ibrahim Ofori Yusif, earlier noted that their goal in the competition was not only to excel academically but also to use the national platform to draw attention to their infrastructural challenges and appeal for support.
