Afua Asantewaa Begins Guinness World Record Singing Marathon in Kumasi

Ghanaian songstress Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has begun her second attempt at breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual. The challenge commenced at dawn on December 21, 2024, at Heroes’ Park, Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, and is set to run continuously until December 25.

In this marathon, Asantewaa is performing exclusively Ghanaian songs to spotlight the nation’s rich musical heritage on the global stage.

Her manager, Madam Gladys Osei Owiredu, expressed confidence in the preparation and readiness for the attempt. “It’s been challenging by way of preparations, but I can confirm that she is ready for the task ahead,” she remarked.

This endeavor follows Asantewaa’s first attempt in December 2023, where she fell short of surpassing the current record of 105 hours held by India’s Sunil Waghmare. Undeterred, her team remains optimistic about this year’s attempt.

The event has garnered significant support from sponsors including International Maritime Hospital, Ghana Gas, Nasco Electronics, and Zoomlion Ghana Limited. Their backing emphasizes the importance of the event in promoting Ghanaian music on a global scale.

Dubbed the “Singathon,” Asantewaa’s attempt has captured national attention, with Ghanaians eagerly cheering her on. Many view her effort as not just a personal milestone but a testament to Ghana’s vibrant cultural identity.
