Four individuals, including Kwabena Adu-Boahen and his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, have pleaded not guilty to multiple corruption-related charges involving an alleged GHC49 million scandal linked to the National Signals Bureau.
Appearing before Justice Eugene Nyante Nyadu on April 30, 2025, the accused—Kwabena Adu-Boahen, Angela Adjei-Boateng, Mildred Donkor, and Advantage Solutions Limited—denied all charges, which range from stealing and fraud to money laundering and abuse of public office.
Prior to the plea taking, counsel for the accused, Samuel Atta-Akyea, requested an adjournment, stating that his clients had been caught off guard by the state. He noted that the accused had responded to an invitation from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on April 29, during which they were informed of pending charges by the Attorney General. They were directed to return the following day, only to be arraigned without being officially served.
The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, opposed the application for adjournment, arguing that the accused and their lawyer were well aware of the charges. The court consequently ordered the charges to be read and the pleas to be taken.
Kwabena Adu-Boahen faces seven separate charges, including three counts of stealing, defrauding by false pretence, willfully causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit, and misrepresenting public property operations.
Angela Adjei-Boateng is charged with collaborating with her husband to exploit his public office for personal gain. The couple also face a joint charge of conspiracy to steal.
Additionally, all four defendants are charged with money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Following the pleas, the Attorney General requested an in-camera hearing to present evidence supporting a remand application for Adu-Boahen, alleging that he had attempted to interfere with a key witness. This claim was strongly refuted by the defense, which questioned the plausibility of witness tampering under the scrutiny of state authorities.
Justice Nyadu granted all accused persons temporary bail under their current conditions. A decision on the remand application is expected on Friday, following the in-camera presentation by the Attorney General.
