The Weija Divisional Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old mason, Isaac Adonteng, for allegedly murdering his 13-year-old daughter, Celestine Adonteng, at Kokrobite in Accra. The arrest followed a police statement issued on Thursday, November 20, announcing the launch of investigations into the tragic incident.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the suspect severely assaulted the young girl with a cane, a metal pipe, and other objects after accusing her of eating food meant for her younger sibling. Despite the multiple injuries she sustained, Adonteng reportedly failed to seek medical attention and instead confined her in a room.
Acting on a complaint, police officers visited the home and found the victim unconscious. She was quickly rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Items retrieved from the scene include a metal pipe and a cutlass believed to have been used during the assault.
In its statement, the Accra Regional Police Command condemned the use of excessive force by parents and guardians, stressing that such acts are criminal and often lead to irreversible tragedy. The Command also urged the public to report all cases of child abuse and domestic violence to ensure timely intervention and protection of vulnerable individuals.
