The Ministry of Interior has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a statutory public holiday in honour of Eid-ul-Adha.

This announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, May 29, and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak. The ministry called on the general public to observe the day nationwide as a public holiday.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is a significant religious observance on the Islamic calendar. It honours the faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, in submission to God’s command.

The celebration aligns with the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, and falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic year.

Revered as the “Greater Eid,” the occasion is marked by communal prayers, sacrificial offerings, and acts of kindness and charity, as Muslims worldwide come together in unity and devotion.
