A devastating fire broke out at Agbogbloshie in the Greater Accra Region on Sunday night, November 24, 2024, destroying numerous wooden structures and their contents.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that the fire began around 9:38 pm. Two fire trucks from the Accra City and Circle Fire Stations were promptly dispatched, with the first team arriving at the scene by 9:48 pm.
The blaze had already consumed several makeshift wooden structures and was rapidly spreading, complicating efforts to access the fire’s source. However, the tactical team managed to bring the fire under control by 12:54 am and fully extinguished it by 1:38 am on Monday.
While the fire caused significant damage, firefighters managed to save several adjacent structures from being destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and GNFS has commended the efforts of the fire personnel in containing the blaze despite challenging circumstances.
