Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced that from December 1, 2024, kidney dialysis will be offered free of charge to all patients enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
This decision follows a successful pilot program that provided free dialysis for patients aged 60 and older, as well as those under 18.
Speaking on November 10 in the Old Tafo constituency, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the financial burden of kidney disease treatments and noted that the pilot, which began six months ago, helped address this challenge.
“Starting December 1 of this year, all kidney dialysis patients will be covered for free under the NHIS,” he declared.
