Police Deny Beating Oliver Barker-Vormawor While in Custody

Oliver Barker Vormawor has been trending online for quite some time now, and the reason is that he was arrested because of a post he made on social media.

The Ghana Police Service has refuted claims that activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor was beaten by officers during his time in custody. In a statement issued on October 20, 2024, the police labeled the allegations as “false and baseless,” suggesting that they were part of an effort by Barker-Vormawor and his supporters to gain public sympathy.

Barker-Vormawor, who is facing prosecution from the Office of the Attorney General, was granted bail by the High Court on October 16, 2024. The bail amount was set at GH¢20,000 with two sureties; however, attempts to execute the bail have been unsuccessful due to his inability to secure the necessary sureties.

The police stated he was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The police reiterated their commitment to upholding law and order while ensuring the safety of all individuals in their custody, including suspects like Barker-Vormawor.
