The Coalition of Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey is set to submit a petition to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources today, October 4, 2024, as part of its ongoing protest against illegal mining, or “galamsey.”

This action is part of a three-day demonstration that began on October 3 under the banners of “#FreeTheCitizens” and “#SayNoToGalamsey.”

The coalition aims to raise public awareness about the damaging effects of galamsey on Ghana’s waterbodies and forest reserves, and to demand stronger government action to combat the issue.

Brownson Adatsi, the group’s convener, called on the public to join the protest, emphasizing the widespread impact of illegal mining on the country’s resources and future.

The protest will continue through Saturday, October 5, with a vigil planned for the evening at Independence Square.
