Dorcas Affo-Toffey, the Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, narrowly escaped death following a severe accident on the Takoradi-Cape Coast-Accra Highway. The incident occurred around 5:05 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024, as the MP and her entourage were returning from her campaign launch at Half Assini.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident was caused by an overtaking maneuver involving two heavy trucks. One of the truck drivers, seemingly dozing off, lost control of the vehicle. To avoid a deadly collision, the driver of Affo-Toffey’s Ford Raptor swerved off the road, landing in a nearby bush.
The MP, along with three others in the vehicle, was immediately rushed to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. All are reported to be in stable condition.
A statement was released on social media by the MP’s team, expressing gratitude for the well-wishes and prayers from her constituents. The message emphasized the support and love for the MP, stating, “Jomoro Stands Strong: Heartfelt Prayers and Well-Wishes for our Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey.”
Her daughter, Ghanaian musician Fantana, also reacted to the news, expressing her profound gratitude to God for sparing their lives. She wrote, “THANK YOU, JESUS! I am profoundly thankful to the Almighty God for sparing my life in what could have been a devastating tragedy. My heartfelt appreciation goes out to everyone for your prayers and well-wishes during this challenging time.”
