National Theatre Offers Support to Afronitaaa and Other Performing Arts Professionals

Amy Frimpong, the Executive Director of the National Theatre of Ghana, has pledged support to dancer Afronitaaa following her impressive performance at the Britain’s Got Talent auditions. Frimpong stated that the National Theatre, which oversees dance as one of the performing arts sectors, will provide facilities to help Afronitaaa hone her skills and assist other professionals in the field.

“Our doors are open to as many professionals in the performing arts who are interested in our assistance to showcase their works. That is what the National Theatre does for Ghanaians,” she expressed.

The gesture was made during a meeting between the National Theatre, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, and Afronitaaa, also known as Danita Akosua Adoma, upon her return from the Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

Afronitaaa, along with her protégé Abigail Adjiri, received a standing ovation from the judges, including Simon Cowell, and the audience during their performance on the world-famous talent platform’s auditions. Abigail, a hearing-impaired child, danced alongside Afronitaaa, waving the Ghana flag on stage while dressed in colorful, Kente-inspired clothes.

Minister-designate for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, praised Afronitaaa for her courageous display of talent on the global stage and pledged support for various stakeholders in the creative arts industry.

Afronitaaa, a Level 300 student at the University of Ghana, has established her own dance academy and trains young dancers. Judge Bruno on the show rated their choreography as “world-class,” while Judge Simon Cowell described their performance as one of his “favorite auditions of the year.”
