Ghana Police Commence Investigation into Alleged Bribery Incident During Ejisu By-Election

The Ghana Police Service has initiated an investigation into an alleged electoral offense involving temporary officers of the Electoral Commission (EC) and Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, during the recent by-election in Ejisu, Ashanti Region.

A widely circulated video from April 30 during the by-election showed Dr. Nyarko placing a white envelope on a table in front of two EC officials, sparking allegations of potential influence over the electoral process.

In a statement released on X, the police confirmed the start of investigations into the incident, noting that the individuals involved, including George Sasu, Regina Serwaa, and Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, have been invited to assist in the investigation. The police also stated that they are collaborating with the EC in this matter.

“The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into the alleged electoral offense involving some temporary officers of the Electoral Commission and a Member of Parliament during the by-election at Ejisu in the Ashanti region,” the statement read.

“The persons involved, George Sasu, Regina Serwaa, and Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, have subsequently been invited by the Police to assist in the investigation, and their statements have been duly taken. Police are working together with the Electoral Commission as the investigation continues,” it continued.

The police are taking this matter seriously and are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process in Ghana.
