GES Urges Headteachers to Keep Schools Open Amidst Teacher Strike

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive to headteachers of junior and senior high schools to maintain school operations and ensure the safety of students, despite an ongoing strike by three teacher unions.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) initiated the strike on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, citing the government’s failure to address their grievances regarding their conditions of service.

In a statement, the GES advised parents to remain calm, assuring them that the situation is being closely monitored, and further directives will be provided as necessary.

The GES emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, directing school management teams to mobilize and take necessary measures to maintain a conducive learning environment.
