Undersea Cable Restoration to Take Five Weeks

In response to the recent undersea cable disruptions affecting internet connectivity in Ghana, the National Communications Authority (NCA) has taken proactive measures to address the issue. Following a face-to-face meeting with subsea cable providers and mobile network operators, a collaborative effort has been initiated to restore internet services to normalcy.

Mobile network operators and cable providers are working closely with international partners to enhance data service capacity and expedite the repair process. Repair vessels have been dispatched to assess and restore damaged cable locations, with the aim of minimizing the impact of the disruptions.

However, subsea cable providers have estimated a minimum timeline of five weeks for full service restoration. While efforts are underway to expedite the process, the complexity of repairing undersea cables necessitates careful assessment and execution.

In the interim, the NCA is encouraging active participation in the Ghana Internet Exchange to facilitate efficient local content delivery and internet traffic exchange. This initiative aims to optimize internet usage and mitigate the effects of the disruptions on businesses and individuals relying on uninterrupted connectivity.
