Former NPP General Secretary Ohene Ntow Defends Backing Alan for President

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow, has staunchly defended his public endorsement of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen for the upcoming 2024 election.

Ohene Ntow, alongside Buaben Asamoa, Hopeson Adorye, and Boniface Saddique Abubakar, faced expulsion from the NPP for throwing their support behind the Independent Presidential candidate.

During an interview with Metro TV, Nana Ohene Ntow expressed his acknowledgment of the party’s decision while stressing the importance of voters considering a candidate’s character when electing leaders.

“People’s choices in elections are heavily influenced by the character of the candidates vying for office. This should be a fundamental consideration,” Ohene Ntow explained.

Acknowledging the party’s authority to make such decisions, he refrained from contesting the expulsion, stating, “You have the institutional right to act as you see fit, but in politics, numbers play a significant role.”

The NPP officially expelled Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique on November 20, citing violations of specific articles within the Party’s Constitution as the grounds for their removal.

The party’s statement, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, particularly highlighted the breach of Article 3(5)(A)(4), which mandates all members to “abide by and publicly support the Party’s decisions.”
