The Coordinator of the National School Feeding Program, Mrs. Gertrude Quashigah, has sadly passed on.
The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred on the 12th of November, 2023, this Sunday.
Mrs. Gertrude Quashigah, who was born on the 1st of February, 1960, in Dzelukope, Keta, Volta Region, had a noteworthy career as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ambar Quality Foods Limited. She was not only a prominent personality in the realm of hospitality but also made substantial contributions to the Ghanaian culinary industry.
She was the spouse of the late Major Courage E. K Quashigah (Retired), a former Minister in the previous Kufuor administration. She graduated from Keta Secondary Senior High School and went on to pursue advanced studies in her chosen field.
Under Mrs. Quashigah’s leadership, the Ghana School Feeding Initiative achieved remarkable progress in ensuring that children throughout the nation had access to wholesome meals. The program’s goal was to boost school enrollment, attendance, and retention while also enhancing the overall health and well-being of the students.
Gertrude Quashigah was relieved of her position as the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Initiative in May 2021. A letter from the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare at the time requested her to transfer any official documents or assets in her possession to the ministry’s Chief Director. No explanation was provided for her dismissal in the letter dated May 18, 2021.
Subsequently, President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo-Addo reversed the decision.
