Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Raping Toddler in Madina Social Welfare

In a significant ruling, a 31-year-old man who sexually assaulted a one-year, seven-month-old baby in Madina Social Welfare has been handed a 20-year prison sentence with hard labor (IHL) by the Adentan Circuit Court. The presiding judge, Mrs. Sedinam Awo Balokah, found Kafui Goli guilty of the charge of defilement at the conclusion of the trial.

The horrifying incident unfolded when the young victim had gone to play in the convict’s room. Upon her return, it was discovered that her diaper was soaked in blood, signaling the heinous act that had taken place.

The court, in delivering the sentence, took into account the heinous nature of the crime, the breach of trust placed in Goli by the baby’s mother, and the utter innocence of the baby.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, revealed that the complainant was a beautician, while the accused, now convicted, was employed at a hotel. Goli resided in the same house at Madina Social Welfare as the complainant’s sister.

The complainant was the mother of twins, both girls aged one year and seven months. On November 19, 2021, when Goli returned from work around 4:00 pm, some children in the house, including one of the complainant’s daughters, followed him to his room.

The prosecutor explained that the complainant later went to retrieve her daughter (the victim) from Goli’s room. Goli, however, requested that the victim be allowed to play in his room. Around 7:00 pm, the complainant again went to Goli’s room to prepare her daughter for bedtime and was shocked to discover her child’s diaper stained with blood.

Confronting Goli with her discovery, he neither admitted nor denied the defilement offense. Subsequently, the complainant reported the incident to the Madina Police, leading to the issuance of a police medical form for the victim’s examination. After the medical assessment, the complainant returned the endorsed medical form to the authorities.
