Borteyman Sports Complex for All Africa Games 2023 Nears Completion, Legon Facility Requires Further Work

In preparation for the upcoming 2023 Africa Games, the Borteyman Sports Complex in Ghana is rapidly approaching completion, with 87% of the construction work already finished. The encouraging progress was unveiled during a comprehensive tour of the facility conducted by the African Union Sports Council (AUSC), the Local Organizing Committee, and Chefs de Mission from various African countries.

The Borteyman Sports Complex has been designated as the main venue for the Africa Games, accommodating a wide range of sports including athletics, boxing, and football, as well as swimming, tennis, badminton, and volleyball. Noteworthy features of the complex include an aquatic center with both warm-up and competition pools capable of accommodating up to 1000 spectators, in addition to five tennis courts and various other amenities.

Expressing their contentment with the progress made thus far, the inspection team, led by AUSC Coordinator Decius Chipande, conveyed their appreciation for the substantial investment made by the government of the Republic of Ghana in constructing these state-of-the-art facilities. Chipande emphasized the deep satisfaction of the African Union regarding the development and expressed gratitude for the Ghanaian government’s commitment.

However, during the inspection, it became evident that the Legon facility still requires significant work before it can be considered complete. The construction of tartan tracks for both the stadium and the warm-up field has yet to be initiated, and crucial areas such as the director’s box and the media tribune remain unfinished.

With the Africa Games scheduled to commence in March 2024, it is imperative that both the Borteyman Sports Complex and the Legon facility are handed over in December as planned. The completion of these venues will ensure the successful hosting of the prestigious continental event, offering athletes and spectators a world-class sporting experience.
