Provide funding for Creatives – Oscar Provencal to Government

Oscar Provencal

Oscar Provencal, a veteran actor, has asked the government to provide funding for creatives who produce short skits and series.

According to the Inspector Bediako actor, those who specialise in short social media skits as well as those who do series are all contributing to the local movie industry because they are all part of the movie industry.

Oscar Provencal was speaking on TV3’s New Day, which was moderated by Berla Mundi and featured Abraham Ohene-Djan and movie producer Peter Sedufia on the panel.

He also advised Ghanaians not to compare Ghana’s film industry to Nigeria’s, as the two are vastly different, ‘’Look at Nigeria’s population and the number of movies they produce in a year and compare it to ours here.

‘’There is no point comparing the two industries because they are worlds apart and one has far more advanced than the other so kindly stop the comparisons,’’ he stated.

His call comes in the wake of the Ghanaian film industry’s decline, and at a time when some local film producers, particularly those from Kumawood, have resorted to producing short skits for YouTube and television series.
