An 8-year-old girl has died after a massive fire swept through Dansoman Market in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident was first reported at 12:02 am, with the Dansoman Fire Station crew arriving within two minutes. Firefighters met the blaze at an advanced stage, spreading quickly across several wooden structures and shops.

To bring the situation under control, eight fire engines from Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa, and Accra City were deployed, supported by two private water tankers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

The fire was confined at 1:51 am, controlled by 3:03 am, and fully extinguished by 5:21 am after extensive overhauling to remove hidden flames.

Sadly, the young girl was trapped in one of the affected structures and could not be rescued. Her charred remains have been handed over to the Police for preservation as investigations continue.

While several properties were destroyed, firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures. The GNFS has since urged the public to maintain vigilance and adhere to safety measures in market areas to avert similar tragedies.
